What makes vampires so seductive?
The amount of television shows that have had vampires in them : Moonlight, Angel, Buffy ( and others that I forget, books with countless following, and movies. There are thousands of movies on vampiric themes. People can never get enough of them.
There is something incredibly seductive about vampiric lore, which is much more appealing than Werewolves, mummies and frankenstein.
The vampire exudes sexual potency, a dark and seductive beauty that normal people do not have. Vampires seduce us with our forbidden desires, and do things that make us uninhibited. And, let's face it vampires are pretty. Even when they are fanged and have weird eyes, they still look better than me on a good day.
Where does vampiric lore come from? There has been superstitions and legends of dark nightly creatures who take blood from the living. In folklore they come into the night and destroy everything in their path. It wasn't until the late 18th Century that vampires myths started becoming stronger with tales of mysterious deaths.
However we all know that the biggest vampire of them all came with Bram Stoker's Dracula in 1897. Dracula, who seduced his prey but had a pure untarnished love for his beloved wife who was once again reincarnated .
This gave rise to the Gothic novel , which became a mirror of the repressed sexuality of the victorian age, and a fear of women's sexual nature. Lucy got in trouble because she was a naughty flirt ( and if this reminds you of all horror movies like Haloween your not far off this was the birth of this.
Whatever the case, the first vampire that appeared on screen was very different from what we know today, he was pointy looking and kind of weird.
This of course gave birth to the sexier more seductive version we know today.
So why redo the vampire genre over and over? Perhaps there is so many ways to tell this story that it is the reason that it never dies. These villains remain in time because they are intelligent and offer no apologies for being evil. There is something almost pitiful in their existence which makes us keep going back for more

Vampires have changed since there inception from one thing to another, but the most alluring aspect of their nature for me is in how they romanticise despair. This is something that really took off with Anne Rice and her vision of vampires (Louis) and was continued on with brooding characters like Angel. Though they do posess less of the charisma that vampires such as Bela Lugosi and Gary Oldman have they all share the power to seduce at will. Vampires are the best if you want to live vicariously.

Angel is by far the cutest vampire, something about a vampire with a heart...
There is something else, all vamps are cool Ever see a dorky vampire? Don't think so. When Buffy ( the movie) converted David Arquette, he got cool all of a sudden.
It's like they inject something that makes em have some extra goodness.
Spike was a dork before he became a vampire.

I think the immortaility thing is a big selling point of the blood sucking attraction. Eternal youth and all that.
There is an eroticism to munching on someone's neck, though I do prefer vamps that tear flesh in frenzy as opposed to focused hypnotic seduction.
I also think the slaughtering others for survival romanticism and the thought of having those you let live becoming slaves is appealing to the nihilist is all of us.
As a vamp the unrestrained primal urges can be acted on without moral repercussions, "everyone needs to eat"

This is a trick question, right?
No on ewho has had their neck 'munched on' (as JD so aptly put it), could possibly wonder ... although personally I'd rather have my immortality served another way...
*LOL* I am reminded how much I enjoyed that move, Love at First Bite, I'll have to get it out and watch it again, now....

Yes, the second picture is Brad Pitt in Interview with a Vampire, perhaps the only one in that movie who was sexy enough to play the part! ( Although Louis had violet eyes but ah well)
