Pretentious Twats
I have something to say I think it's pretty important or else I wouldn't be writing it. First I like to state that I started this blog like many out there for my love of watching movies and have a appreciation of different types of film out there and basically want be exposed to different films as possible. The second reason that I started this blog is because I was sick of reading so many reviews that was biased and completely pretentious basing their opinions on what they believe is cinema royalty. AND I was sick of it!!! Seriously can't you enjoy a movie because it entertained you not because it was made by someone that have accepted as having talent in the "inner" circles of the film industry.
My first tiff is with the show At the Movies and yes technically my love for film may have started from this show and yes I do have respect for them but after watching and reading some of their shows and reviews I always seen a common trend. If a film is from Europe it was immediately fantastic, it's deep and brilliant - this is especially true is the film is French or Italian. American film is seen as second best. What I don't understand is that they never review any Asian movies at all. And it's not like they are not shown in Australia. Come on if you really appreciate all films than why don't they review movies that aren't European for once.
Another pretentious movie maker that just pisses me off - Sofia Coppola. Her movies are average at best. But anyone who is pretentious believes that she some visionary in movie making. Look I'm pretty open to different ways to making film and exploring the human condition but there is a limit in which something is just boring. I didn't mind her Virgin Suicide - that was intriguing and quite entertaining. But I don't understand why everyone thinks that her film Lost in Translation to fantastic. And as pretty as Scarlett Johansson is if felt more like a photo shoot rather than a movie. Minimal dialogue is suppose to be some sort of film technique which works in many other films but come on is this movie there should some sort of story right?
ARGH!!! So annoyed.
