Hari Puttar: The Bollywood version of Harry Potter gets sued
Bollywood has always been known for less original ideas (aside from their extremely original ones) but they somehow get away with it through the talent of the execution. This time around, they’ve decided on an Indian version of the successful Harry Potter series.
Literally translated as Harry Potter and the Magic Wand, Hari Puttar Aur Jadu Ki Chadi got sued by the Hollywood honchos before its premiere. But courts recently cleared all charges claiming Hollywood was aware of the title use since its registration in 2005.
The movie is currently scheduled to be released tomorrow on September 26th. The movie follows a young Indian boy in Yorkshire who is threatened by two criminals and has to save the world. Indian critics say the film is more similar to Home Alone than Harry Potter but Hollywood is budging on its stance, claiming a violation of intellectual property.
London based director Lucky Singh dismissed talk of copying, claiming his story has songs and animation, something the other films doesn’t.
