Filmsi - A not so serious look at films and film reviews

Anything film =D

Death at a funeral, 2007

Just to clarify this is the British film Death at a Funeral and not the upcoming American version with Martin Lawrence. So the other day I was about to watch Death at a Funeral and I told my family that I'm going to watch death at a funeral, and their reaction was like well no shit there is death at a funeral personally when I first heard about this film I had no such reaction and naturally my family cynically dismiss my attempts to convince them they should watch it with me.

Without a doubt there is something very English about this film, not because everyone has an English accent, is pale and driving around shitty cars but the humour it self is quite English - slightly dark and completely cringe worthy. It's start all serious with a casket being driven to a beautiful green country house. The casket is then carefully place into position and lead character peers into it and finds that they have gotten the wrong person. And that’s when all the fun begins. An hour and half (or roughly) of ridiculous things happening, from drugged up a boyfriend, the blackmailing midget, seedy one night stands coming to haunt you and the overachieving sibling. And of course that rude and inappropriate uncle that shares way too much information.

So well I think you get the picture. Not an overly intelligent piece but definitely worth a watch, its fun and it's silly and generally an enjoying experience. No, it may not win an Oscar but then again not many comedies do which is a shame because comedies are incredibly difficult to pull off. Death at a Funeral delivers the goods, if it wasn't for the swearing and the nudity I would say this something people of all ages could enjoy (I mean people over the age of 12). I will be honest with you I'm not too familiar with the cast which makes sense I live in Australia when most of the stuff that is made popular is the US blockbusters rather than a well made Brittish comedy pieces even though I believe is this was quite popular when it was released. Anywho where was that sentence heading? Oh that's right, about the cast and I was explaining that I not familiar with cast even though there were a few people that I have seen in other films and I did mistakenly think one of the actors looked a lot like Ricky Gavis but he clearly wasn't it. There isn't really much else I can say, I mean its was really a cool and easy to watch kind of film - like on a cold lazy Friday night in kind of thing. So yeah that's it... go watch it.
