Puncture, 2011 - Trailer

Hey all another movie coming out in the near future. It stars Captain America himself Chris Evans.

The story is about a drug addict lawyer who decides to take on a huge company to fight what is just and right. It's not a overly original premise but if the delivery is well done this could be an excellent movie.

Sidenote: OMG how buff is Chris Evans?? Is this guy on steroids or something - it doesn't look normal its like he's a male doll or something.

Here is as usual the link to the trailer Trailer

A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas, 2011 - Trailer

For those who love stupid humour than you can all rejoice because Harold and Kumar are back and this time causing havoc in Christmas. I don't really like movies like this one but from some reason I have a real soft spot for Harold and Kumar. Or at least I did for the first Harold and Kumar movie. Which I thought was absolutely hilarious but like many sequels the 2nd Harold and Kumar was not that great. But let's hope this one will be much better. Although knowing the franchise it will be much like the other ones. So if you are not a fan I suggest you stay away from this one. The release date is November 2011. Here's a link to the trailer Trailer

Scott Pilgrim vs the World, 2010

When watching this movie a scary thought crept into my mind- man I would have loved this movie when I was a teenager. This thought means two things; first I am no longer a teenager which is not shocking revelation considering I am growing older every year but the other most frightening prospective from this thought was the fact that I'm too old for this - not only I am not a teenager but my enjoyment of this movie is diminished slightly because I'm too old for this. Even though I am pretty sure I'm technically in the target audience.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is based on a guy named Scott (Michael Cera), who at 22 years of age kind of does nothing with his life. He lives with his gay roommate in what looks like bomb shelter left over from the 60's but Scott is still pretty cool for one thing he's in a band. Granted its unsigned and possibly terrible nevertheless a band. Scott at the beginning of the film is dating a girl who is literally 17 years old and although his friends are naturally apprehensive about his choice of companionship but this doesn't seem to bother Scott at all. Until that is he meets Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), instantly Scott is smitten and believes that she is the girl of his (literally) of his dreams. The rest of the film is filled with Scott's epic battle to win Ramona over and of course fight off her 7 evil ex's. Oh wait did I forget to mention this 7 evil ex's business? Well basically for poor Scott to be with Ramona, Scott must battle and defeat (to death) her evil ex's and thus be victorious!

Scott Pilgrim is original in every sense well except for the part about the guy chasing the girl. But the delivery is something that I have never seen before and that was its greatest appeal. The entire film is a cross between old school PC games and if anime were in live action. The fight scenes reminiscent of classics like Street Fighter with witty dialogue and jibes at pop culture Scott Pilgrim is like an epitome for teen wonderment. However like I mentioned earlier my 17 year old self would have broken a rib from the excitement of watching this film. But I'm no longer a teenager and therefore it does not appeal to me as much as it would have. For more mature audience this movie would have missed the mark with the use of language and even the style is beyond what most adults would call entertaining. But it was actually incredibly funny and witty which is a credit to the writers. And also a part of its appeal is largely based on the novelty of the film - it's so stylised and strange and in many ways much like a gimmick which basically carries the entertainment. But like many things that are a gimmick the novelty of the film does wear off after an hour and ten minutes into the movie. By the time you get to the 5th ex you are over the whole battle of the ex's story and wanting the film to conclude. Basically this movie would maintain its entertainment value if just cut down in screen time; particularly with less ex's - 5 instead of 7 would have maintained the pace of the film and kept the novelty without it becoming tedious as it got particularly at the later part of the film.

Final Verdict: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is an eccentric film clearly tapping into youth market with success. However older audience are left feeling a little bored with the repetitiveness of battles and even feeling a little upset to come to the realisation that their youth is well and truly beyond their grasp...

Rating: 7.7/10

Hey all again another film festival to excite you all. This time it's Antenna: International Documentary Film Festival. It will be running from 5th to 9th October 2011 of course. But as far this festival goes it's only showing in Sydney, which is a shame. This is the first year that this festival will be showing so maybe it will expand to other cities in later years who knows.

Again here is the website for ya'll to check it out - www.antennafestival.org It's sort of a new site so there isn't much information but I have subscribed to a newsletter so if there is any news coming my way I will sure to pass it on.

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, 2008

Nick (Cera) and Norah (Dennings)

Hey everyone. How is everyone going? I am rather unwell, stupid flu has gotten the better of me and I know this would be the perfect excuse to lie in my bed watching movies but I'm actually so sick that the only thing that I can do is sleep. But I admit I have such strong feelings for you guys and girls some might say love, it’s like a drug. So much so that I might even quote a certain blonde pop star (cough Kesha cough) and instead of lying in bed dying I am here to update my blog because internet I love you.

So moving on today's review of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. First before I start I must admit for a long time I always thought the title of this film was Nick and NOAH's Infinite Playlist, knowing fully that it was about a girl and a boy. But imagine if it was really Noah - that would be interesting indeed.
Nick (Cera)

Again let's stop this nonsense rambling and on with the review - Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist is a story of a sad wimpy kid named shockingly Nick played by the likable and "not at all typecast" Michael Cera. Dear Nick is struggling to get over his break up with ultra bitch ex Tris (Alexis Dziena). Tragic Nick makes sappy (but super awesome) mix CD's expressing his feelings or whatever teens these days do. On the other side of town in what is presumably a private girls school Tris couldn't care less about poor Nick each time throwing away his mix CD's. And although Tris is a heartless cold bitch, Norah (Kat Dennings) Tris's what you call frenemy is completely fascinated and even inspired by Nick's taste in music. One Friday afternoon when Nick is crying over Tris and Norah wondering how he could possibly look like news hit the hipster radio that some heaps indy band something about a bunny is going to play in New York City in a super secret location. This super secret performance from Fluffy Bunny bring sad little Nick out of depressed hole and into the wild jungle that is New York City. On a gig with his band mates Nick finds Tris with another and find this entire situation pretty much soul crushing despite the fact they have been broken up for awhile. But here he also encounters Norah and thus starts a series of events which really accounts for a super awesome Friday night.
Tris and Nick

This movie makes me bemused by the youth. Despite my very young age I felt by 3 am I would have wanted to hit the hay but not these youngsters although I believe I secretly missed out on my youth as I have never wondered the streets of New York or even Sydney as a 17 year old without the potential threat of never seeing daylight again. But hey that just might be my sheltered life. But ignore that mishap in my life this was like watching a good night out with friends played out with the amazing sound track in background. But like any good teen flick Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist still has all the usual teen drama/issues - troubles with ex's, new sexual experiences, a budding romance and all the awkwardness that go along with that, decisions that need to made, insecurity about oneself or family and of course drunken friends to take of.
Norah and drunken friend

This film does the genre proud it's clever and genuinely funny, and is true in essence about getting over feelings of rejection and being afraid to explore something new with someone new. I particularly like the fact; yes it is about teens in the city but they were pretty level headed teens and the main plot was about the romance between Nick and Norah and therefore kept pretty much to that plot without trailing off into tangents about other less important subplots. Unlike Superbad which was also about a night out Nick and Norah was much more tamed and less crazy which I thought was refreshing to the usual toilet humour or over sexed teens. Strangely enough giving the chance for the characters to be their innocent or inexperience self really showed a level a maturity which isn't seen in teen movies. Teens are usually portrayed as sex crazed and always wanting to drink and party or wanting to be in the “in” crowd or whatever but this movie doesn't do that. In many ways if feels like these teens are a lot older than their 17/18 years. It’s downfall really is the fact that it’s far too pleasant; it hard to say if anyone will remember it - it’s impact will most likely not withstand the test of time and the fact it was not a well known movie. Its humour and wit probably cannot compare to other much more funnier teen movies like Mean Girls or Juno.
The gang

The final verdict would be Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist has it's moments of hipster pretentiousness but getting over that it's really a sweet story about a boy and a girl. A classic tale of romance among the youth in the streets of New Yorks with a killer soundtrack, 7.5/10.
This picture is here because its a nice shot and good positioning
