Date Night, 2010

Hey all hope everyone is well. Today's review is Date Night which stars Tina Fey and Steve Carrell. So the stars of TV decided to make a movie.

Date Night for those who don't know is about a boring and average family of four; mum, dad and two kids. Phil and Claire are your typical boring couple from the 'burbs. Until of course one night whilst on a date they take the reservations of another couple and get into a whole lot of trouble.

Date Night was a blast to watch. I mean it was light comedy at it's best. It's probably not something that will stay with you for a long time but definitely very entertaining. I don't know why I found this movie hilarious I mean I usually don't like light comedy but this movie was just so pleasant. It had some famous cameo's from stars like Marky Mark (Wahlberg - just in case you were wondering) with the extremely funny James Franco and Mila Kunis (if only they were this entertaining in the Oscars). I was watching with my mum and she liked too and she's a tough critic.

I know this seems like a super short review and it is, I do apologise I'm really tired and the movie is pretty simple with decent performances from Carrell and Fey. Should really check it out for a cold Friday night at home.

I would give a generous 7/10.

The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, 2011

Hey all, another exciting movie that is soon to be released. As you can see from the tittle it's a Tintin movie! YAAY! I loved Tintin as a child watching the cartoon and as a teen I read the comics so I'm pretty excited for this one. I heard rumours from other people that it was going to be with actors but it turns out those rumours are wrong and it actually an animation. It's kind of weird looking - like the Polar Express kind of weird looking. But hey we will have to see when the film comes out which is in Christmas oh man so far away =(

Funny Face, 1957

Hey all, today I will be reviewing a a golden oldie as they say. This has one of my favourite actresses in it and basically I really just watched it for her. WARNING this is a musical just in case there are some out there that don't like musicals. I have to admit I'm not a huge musical fan. But I don't out right refuse to watch it.

Funny Face stars Fred Astaire and Audrey Hepburn - whom I love and adore and like I mentioned I really watched it for her. The story follows a young girl who works in a little books store that dreams about intellectual discussions with professors in Paris who finds herself one afternoon whilst in her shop stormed by the editor of a famous fashion magazine with models and a photographer, Jo is angry as she harshly brushed aside. At the time little did Jo know that she would soon be selected as the new face of Victory (the fashion magazine that she thoroughly hates). Of course when Jo finds out that she has been selected she out right refuses which makes sense as she is the pretentious intellect that believes that fashion and fashion magazines are beneath her. But when promised a trip to Paris she just couldn't refuse. Naturally Jo falls for the photographer whom convinces her that her funny face is beautiful.

So what did I think of Funny Face? Well to be honest it wasn't that great. Yes it had Fred Astaire and Audrey Hepburn but it was kind of a non-eventful movie. It had the dancing and the singing stuff that Kurt from Glee would go weak in the knees for but I am not Kurt thus it doesn't interest me as much.

I know this sounds like a silly criticism but seriously having Fred Astaire playing Dick the photographer? Isn't he a little too old? I know who else would have done a better job than him in the dancing and the singing and whatnot but it felt really odd and creepy to have him with Hepburn who was at least 30 years his junior. Plus when this movie came out Astaire was pushing 60. Which I thought was pretty amazing considering how much singing and dancing he was doing.

Simply Funny Face was a romance much like many of it's time so yeah nothing overly new or exciting. I like said before I don't have a problem with it but it certainly not my favourite Hepburn movie. I would have to give it nice sweet 6.5/10.
Isn't she just absolutely stunning?! Just beautiful!

Pretentious Twats

I have something to say I think it's pretty important or else I wouldn't be writing it. First I like to state that I started this blog like many out there for my love of watching movies and have a appreciation of different types of film out there and basically want be exposed to different films as possible. The second reason that I started this blog is because I was sick of reading so many reviews that was biased and completely pretentious basing their opinions on what they believe is cinema royalty. AND I was sick of it!!! Seriously can't you enjoy a movie because it entertained you not because it was made by someone that have accepted as having talent in the "inner" circles of the film industry.

My first tiff is with the show At the Movies and yes technically my love for film may have started from this show and yes I do have respect for them but after watching and reading some of their shows and reviews I always seen a common trend. If a film is from Europe it was immediately fantastic, it's deep and brilliant - this is especially true is the film is French or Italian. American film is seen as second best. What I don't understand is that they never review any Asian movies at all. And it's not like they are not shown in Australia. Come on if you really appreciate all films than why don't they review movies that aren't European for once

The Romantics, 2010

The Romantics is a indie/hipster romantic comedy that is neither romantic or comedic but more pretentious than entertaining. For those who have never heard of The Romantics consider yourself lucky. But if you are still interested I have attached a link to the trailer below.
