The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, 2010

Hello all, I hope everyone's Christmas is awesome and full of holiday cheer and fatty food and over eating. I have been sick lately - came down with something and therefore I haven't had a chance to update much. But seriously my long absences is something that most of you probably have gotten use to.

Well this post is about the latest Narnia movie. You know the one that no one is really dying to watch. The official name is The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader but for short I will refer to it as just The Dawn Treader. I have always been a fan of Narnia and although it hasn't been able to compete with the success of the Harry Potter series, Narnia is still bankable. It's like the little train that could. The Dawn Treader is third instalment of the series. I don't actually read the series and therefore I have no idea when it finishes.
Look, its snowing inside!!

The Dawn Treader begins much like the previous movies with the children. And oh my have they grown up! Susan and Peter are all but adults now therefore no longer really in the picture. Now it's only young Lucy and Edmund. Lucy and Edmund is now living with their uncle and aunt and their son Eustace. Eustace is annoying know-it-all snob who absolutely hates the fact his cousins are living with him. Of course Lucy and Edmund think about Narnia and how much their existence in the real world is horrible. It’s particularly difficult for Edmund, who is of course an angst teenager all the time. But this movie isn’t about their time in the real world so soon enough they end up in Narnia but this time with Eustace with them. They end up on the ship the Dawn Treader who is captained by Prince Caspian. Everyone is surprised to see Lucy and Edmund return as there seem to peace and stability in Narnia thus the presence of Lucy and Edmund at first seem to be unnecessary. But of course they wouldn't have been brought to Narnia without reason, right? Well wrong both the children quickly find out that not all is well as it seems thus they must once again help Prince Caspian to defeat evil and restore peace in Narnia.

Caspian: Why are you so blue??

The Dawn Treader is pretty pleasant watch although in comparison to the previous movies it was a slight disappointment but nevertheless The Dawn Treader still full of adventure and action. But honestly the story lacked purpose and had major holes and the reason as to why the children have returned is a bit weak. I guess they couldn't always have Narnia in turmoil. It was nice to see Prince Caspian return and it was pretty entertaining. But Narnia seems like a dying series as the children are growing up and quickly too. Lucy in her own right is now a lovely young lady and although Edmund maybe too young to be in the army he sure isn't a child anymore. I know with the introduction of Eustace it maybe he who is destined to carry it on? But it just doesn't feel quite right not to have the original characters in the Narnia films. From a production point of view it's pretty silly to have the story that says they can't return to Narnia after a certain age. But I feel like since that they have established a fan base on the original characters they would have to keep them some way or another.

The Drawn Treader is alright, it's not bad at all but its sure isn't something I was jumping up and down bursting to tell people about. I probably wouldn't recommend to adults as much unless there is absolutely nothing to watch but I'm sure the kiddies will enjoy it. It's showing in 3D and I hate 3D so I would have preferred to watch it in normal 2D as making the movie 3D didn't make it better or anything. I suggest that you miss the 3D and watch it in 2D. I give The Dawn Treader, 6.8 out 10, mostly due to effort rather than actual story.

Scorsese - De Niro: Dream Team reunite?

From my highly unreliable sources (a free news paper off the streets of Sydney) I have read that that there is a possible movie in the works between director Martin Scorsese and actor Robert De Niro. Any Scorsese fans out there? I'm sure there is plenty he is like Hollywood royalty. So apparently the filming will start next year and film is about union offical turned mafia (not overly shocking). Titled The Irishman, Dream Team fans really need to get excited. This is apparently the nineth time that the two will work together so pretty epic. Sorry for the lack of exclusiveness for those who already know this, for those who don't I hope I made your day .

Due Date, 2010

Due Date, you know the one with Robert Downey Jr. and some other guy that no one really knows that has been advertised every where. Well I watched it the other day. And it was pretty much everything I expected therefore wasn't at all a disappointment. Look I liked this movie but I don't want to talk it up for you and then leave you having high expectations and then be disappointed.

The plot is no rocket science; it's pretty much whatever was shown in the trailers or whatever you know about the movie. Robert Downey Jr. character Peter who is expecting a baby which is apparently due on Friday. I have no idea what day the film starts and therefore it's like this timeless period and the sense of urgency is lacking. But according to Peter he needs to be there for the birth of his child, fair enough. I feel the whole timeless nature may be to avoid the whole what a shitty father leaving poor pregnant wife argument. So Peter the poor soul meets Ethan whom is the supposed 23 year old actor wannabe going to Hollywood. This just happens to be conveniently the same place that Peter is going. And then they embark on some epic and eventful road trip across America and of course develop a bromance.

There is nothing original about Due Date and it's been done before in different ways. It's as shallow as it gets but it’s quite likable. Maybe because I really like Downey Jr. Look he’s a really good actor and even something that isn't of top calibre he still makes it a good film to watch. Look it's not an Oscar winning effort on his part by any means but A for effort. I know that was rather patronizing. But I'm snarky I can't help it sometimes. As for the other guy - okay I won't be mean Zach Galifianakis was actually likable despite the fact if I was in Peter's position I would kill him too. But there is something quite enduring about Ethan and he's like the crazy uncle still trying to hold on to his youth thus very child-like. It's easy for Ethan's character to be just annoying but strangely enough this doesn't seem to happen in Due Date which is a credit to not only the writers but also to Galifianakis.

If you can see pass the unoriginality of Due Date and it's sappy ending and its occasional toilet humour Due Date is reasonable watch. Would I recommend you watch it? It's hard to say, since the price of a watching a movie these days is not cheap I don't believe its value for money. You could wait for it release on DVD and watch then. But if you are keen and this your kind of movie I definitely recommend it. I will have to give it a 6.5/10.

Link to the trailer kids! Enjoy =D
