Stranger Than Fiction, 2006

Hey all sorry for the long absence, uni is finally winding down and now I'm currently in my exam period but because I love all so much in a highly creepy kind of way I felt that a review is required as a gift to you from me.

Stranger than fiction is the movie review of the day, I know that's heaps exciting. So here are the details that you could have looked up but I will share with you any ways. Staring: Will Ferrell, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Dustin Hoffman, Emma Thompson and Queen Latifah. Directed by Marc Forster

A cute little film about an IRS agent begins with a seemingly ordinary and boring Harold Crick who wakes up and finds that his entire life is now being narrated to him by an English woman whom he can't see. What is someone to do but panic when you start hearing voices. Luckily for Harold they seem to cease after certain period of but of course it would no fun if they didn't return in the most inappropriate of times.

Harold being an IRS agent means he basically ruins the lives of many people usually on daily. Harold is kind unimaginative and down right boring I mean he does work for the IRS. On one of these life ruining days he meets Ana who runs a small bakery. The only real reason that he is visiting her is because she probably isn't paying her taxes. Ana a rather free spirited and eccentric character argues that she does not believe in paying taxes and she does her bit for the community. Quite a timid and awkward creature Harold is not quite sure how to make her pay her taxes. It’s quite clear from the beginning that he likes and why not, she's charming and just really cool, man!

But poor Harold has bigger issues to deal with. Much of his worries are based on fact that he has to deal the lady whom has now consumed much his life and is now predicting his imminent death. What is Harold to do? Seeking help from a crack pot professor or something or rather played by Hoffman Harold is on quest to find who the hell this voice he is hearing is.

As you can tell from my overview this one unconventional film. It’s a romantic comedy of sorts without the predictability and with actual humour, likable characters and a plot that is engaging. Yet still keeps to the cute fluffiness that is found in most rom-coms. I have to admit that I really don't like Will Ferrell; I don't like his characters and his movies. They are usually unfunny toilet humour gags about something unoriginal. Therefore watching this I was expecting something similar to his other movies but I was pleasantly surprised. I adored this film which actually showed that Will Ferrell can go beyond that annoying shithead character that he plays all the time. Maggie Gyllenhaal whom I have always been a fan of was just adorable in this film and her little bakery looked so delightful that I actually was hoping that it existed because of my undying love baked goods.

The final verdict: It’s funny, interesting and really entertaining. So why wound;t you watch it? If I had to give it a rating I would give a 7.75/10.

Here's a link from YouTube which is a clip from the film, I would show you the trailer but I feel that the trailer actually reveals too much of the film and kind of kills the film a little.
