Shia LaBeouf

I have a confession to make I heart Shia Labeouf. I love this guy. Really what isn't there to love about him? His talented, good looking and charming and funny but not in an annoying kind of way. So with the release of his new movie in Australia today, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps I wanted to do a mini spot light on Shia LaBeouf and his movies. I haven't seen every single one of them luckily for me there isn’t that many.

First we could discuss or really wonder what Wall Street will be like. From the trailer, its probably an intense movie, totally relevant to the current state of the world. The gist here is that you have Shia LaBeouf's character who happens to be the future or current son in law of the Gordon Gekko (GG). GG has been released from prison and now making inspiration speeches about being greedy is totally ohk, and among his following is Shia. GG and his relationship with his daughter aren't good and his influence on his son in law could potentially ruin his relationship with GG's daughter. So that's what I got from movie. In context it's like an intelligent and modern drama (ironically a sequal from old movie). Even from the trailer there is nothing really new or exciting but if it's well created and delivered this could definitely be a fun and interesting watch.

Heres the youtube link to the trailer.
Really Long Link

So moving on from this let's look at his other roles and movies. I guess I won't really comment on his performance as some of these movies are something he had a relatively minor role in.

I, Robot, 2004
Well apparently he was in this movie but at the time I watched it I didn't even notice him. He was quite young and looked really different plus he was only in the movie like 10 minutes max. So the movie itself wasn't too bad, I mean for a sci-fi it couldn't compare to it's counterparts. I really enjoy sci-fi movies and they are usually so well made and philosophical in nature and although this movie did have some of these potentially philosophical issues however it never really could reach the level of sophistication that was seen other well made sci-fi movies like Alien or Blade Runner. Furthermore not only are these more sophisticated they were generally more entertaining. However in context of general viewing experience it was pretty good. Rating: 6/10

Charlie's Angels 2, 2003
Again LaBeouf's role here wasn't huge but more screen time than I, Robot.
The sequel to one of the most popular and successful main stream action film. The idea of ass-kicking female leads (which was re-vamped from 70/80's TV show) was just genius and the first a complete success because it was actually really good. It was funny, there was some sort of story (although not the best but still a story of sorts), the characters were likable and generally incredibly entertaining. But unfortunately the sequel was a disappointment, for some reason the same formula that they had for the first one didn't quite translate well when the sequel was made. Rating: 5/10

A Guide to Recognising Your Saints, 2006
A pretty small production with some famous stars this drama piece was about the story of an Italian American family and community in the ghetto of New York. Its really a story of Dito who was played by Robert Downing Jr. and Labeouf played the young Dito. And although the movie was really about Dito majority of the movie was like one big flashback to Dito's young days so Labeouf was actually an essesential part of the movie. I really liked this movie, it was interesting and entertaining and complex and a little depressing but nevertheless some really good performances and some deep characters that you hated and loved at the same time. Although Labeouf was awesome in the movie who I was really impressed by was Channing Tatum. He was so different from all the other characters that I have ever seen him play. At first I didn't realise it was him until I had to Google it. This movie is engaging, entertaining and a really good watch, so I highly recommend that you watch it. Rating 8/10

Disturbia, 2007
By the release of this film Labeouf has pretty much starting to make a name for himself probably due to the huge success of Transformers. So playing the lead role as Kale, the angst teen who was under house arrest after punching a teacher in the face (I did tell you he was angst). While under house arrest he pervs on a new neighbour - some hot girl who doesn't realise that the blinds are kind of open when she's getting changed. Whilst perving on said hot girl, he also discovers that his new neighbour is batshit crazy serial killer. So while trying to win over the hot girl, not break the court order, and stop the serial killer - really all in a days work. So nothing overly surprising or amazing in this movie but for its genre its pretty entertaining and of course Labeouf is pretty good as the angst teen and also charming and funny. Rating: 7/10

Surf's Up, 2007
An animation about a penguin who wishes to become a surf champ. Labeouf plays the lead voice over as Cody. Kind of like a mockamentary, it’s essentially a cute kids movie. I really liked this movie maybe because I have a soft spot for kid's movies in general. But it was cute, funny, and something everyone could watch. I know I sound all cheesy but the thing is its true. Rating: 7.75/10

Transformers 1, 2007
Let's face it I'm sure everyone knows about this movie and unless you have been living under a rock. So I don't know if I should really give an over view, its a bit pointless and I'm lazy. So what are my thoughts on the film? Well it was actually quite enjoyable, yes it's not the greatest movie in the world, it won't win an Oscar for it story or acting (particularly Megan Fox) but it did have a good balance of humour from the characters (Labeouf & his character's parents) and enough action for an action film. Clearly aimed for a younger audience therefore predictable and unimaginative but regardless quite entertaining. Rating: 7/10

Eagle Eye, 2008
The next movie which Labeouf was the lead and I guess it was suppose to be a hit but it was only mildly successful. Understandable really this was a disappointment it was suppose to combine action and intrigue from the Bourne movies but it missed the mark. It seems at first quite thrilling the idea about an all controlling machine telling you all things that are about to happen before it happens. But there are major holes in the plot and when the movie is finished you're left wondering about the potholes and detangle the logic that was presented in the movie and pick it apart and then start realising how poorly constructed this movie was. Rating: 5/10

Transformers 2, 2009
Again everyone should know what this movie is, and I'm lazy so I'm not going to over view the movie. Unlike the first movie this sequel like most sequel was disappointing. Everything that made the first was good was ignored and gotten rid of, there was not enough screen time for Labeouf who pretty much carried the entire first movie, and all we saw was a bunch explosions, the plot was over reaching therefore illogical, confusing and hence hard to follow. It was just shit. Rating: 4/10

I know this is not all his movies but this are just the ones I have seen. And since today is the release of Wall Street 2 I thought it was a good idea to do a spot light on him.

Much love and peace,
Samira

PS sorry if it’s a bit dodgy, I haven't edited it.
