Star War fans?

Ohk the tittle is a bit misleading, but I promise you there is some reference to it. Again on my quest to find dumb shit things that are amusing or in other words procrastinating and waiting for my psych report to do itself. I came upon yet another awesome group just for star war fans and/or anyone with maturity level of a 15 year old boy. But unfortunately tho for you to view this link I think you need to be logged on to Facebook (I know I spend way too much time on it). So here's the link

Really Long Link

And oh another thing, thumbs up for google for the pac-man doodle you just let me waste a couple hours of my life playing it.

Peace and much love,
Samira

Cruel Intentions, 1999

Still surfing the wave of my previous post and my love teen movies again I review another teen movie. A worrying trend? I hope not to make this a regular thing but like I have mentioned before its just that my fascination with teen movies doesn't seem to end plus I have seen so many I think it deserves some recognition (oh wow that sounded a lot more pretentious than it was meant to be).

Cruel Intentions begins with step siblings Sebastian (Ryan Phillippe) and Kathryn (Sarah Michelle Gellar) twiddling on the edge of temptation whilst ruling on their slice of the Upper East Side with an iron fist. With complete absence of parental or even adult supervision the sexual deviant Sebastian sees women as a accomplishment, as a prized trophy as if it was his testament at his own ability to charm them into sleeping with him, but Sebastian is bored simply sleeping with numerous of girls is no longer stimulating and not any girl is going to pose a challenge. And a challenge he finds with the virgin from the country Annette (Reese Witherspoon) but Annette is not simply an innocent, wide-eyed naive girl, she is well aware of Sebastian and his "charming" ways. This ironically poses more of a challenge for Sebastian then ever before. Kathryn, Sebastian's lustful step sister poses a bet if he were to de-flower Annette then he shall have his incest, sexual fantasies with her, an accomplishment which he is yet to attain. The conniving and the manipulative Kathryn has her own intentions with the real wide-eyed naive, sheltered creature Cecile (Selma Blair) whom Kathryn believes is impeding on her climb up the social ladder. So one can imagine with which such "wholesome" background Cruel Intentions plays on the sexualisation of youth.

The downfall of Cruel Intentions that it tries to be two conflicting things at the same time, at one end you have the overly sexual world trying too hard to be an adult and to be taken seriously, characters of Sebastian and Kathryn and at the other end the innocence of teenagers is evident with Annette and Cecile. However the film struggles to find the middle ground. Is it really possible for someone like Sebastian to change his ways simply because he has been hanging around someone like Annette for a couple of weeks? Overly simplistic story fails to demonstrate that these changes in character do not happen in a matter of days or weeks but takes a lot longer. How can someone who is morally bankrupt, sleazy, sexist and a down right dickhead which is essentially the character of Sebastian become a sensitive, loving and caring human being by simply spending a restricted amount time with Annette? Sure Annette is intelligent and strong willed woman but even then it would take some sort of miracle for that sort transformation to be achieved. I guess the film emphasizes on the idea that Sebastian's love for Annette and their overwhelming chemistry for one another achieve this change however I failed to see it. Yes there were some moments within the film that showed the tenderness between Annette and Sebastian but it was contrived and forced for it to be truly considered as natural. I guess this really goes back to how well the actors played their characters, Witherspoon in her part as Annette delivers as she has presented Annette as I imagine she should be but as for Sebastian, Phillippe's portrayal was unconvincing, I honestly thought no real change has occurred in him. I didn't like him from the start and I still didn't like him in the end. Was I to simply take he's word that he is different?? How about some real change, some actual good that he has done? But nothing was shown. My key problem with this film is that it's trying to convince the audience to simply forgive Sebastian from his bad past just because he has fallen in love. Furthermore it’s trying so hard to make Sebastian who they first portrayed as quite villainous character to all of a sudden hero and victim.

In general Cruel Intentions can be a shallow film that exploits the sexualisation of teenagers rather than showing anything substantial.

A new super hero?

Whilst pondering about super hero movies instead conveniently not studying for an exam, I thought wouldn't it be cool if super heroes existed? Like it world would be just that more exciting. There are some many super heroes out there, super heroes that can fly, swing from building, that turn green, walk through walls, and read minds. All those "skills" are useful I suppose but really what can they do for your average person that needs help. Like I suppose they can save you from a burning building but isn't that what firemen (and women) do?

Considering I struggle quite a bit on a daily basis, I'm constantly falling over, bumping into walls and glasses door, completely missing social cues and generally making an ass of myself. I thought my real hero would be someone can save me from looking like a fool. Someone that could have a sixth sense that could sense when someone is about to fall over or do something that is cringe worthy and save them from complete and utter embarrassment. They would multiple powers/skills to help you. I know what you're thinking all this due to the fact I just can't walk straight and inability to watch where I'm going. Yeah well, you're probably right BUT you think back in your past when you did something so stupid that you wished you could simply melt into the floor, wouldn’t life been better a superhero could have stopped you beforehand??

Ohk I will stop with my random rant...I know I know this has nothing to do with films per se. But hopefully that was an interesting rant. And in the near future I will post something more related to film (most likely to be a film review) But I feel this could be a potentially "segment" in my blog, If Only Movies were True. Maybe??? Any who have any comments or insults just it hit them up in the comments box.
